Loss Prevention


Proactive Security Services can provide a variety of loss prevention services for the retail, manufacturing and transportation industries. Our loss prevention specialists are highly trained professional dedicated to reducing and eliminating theft and loss from external as well as internal threats.

External Threats – this includes threats from outside the company that may include shoplifting, simple thefts or organized theft of inventory, etc. Our agents are trained to observe, identify and prevent thefts from occurring on your property. This includes the observing of patrons both in person and through the use of video surveillance systems. Activities are monitored to both prevent and stop thefts from occurring.

Internal Threats – this includes threats from inside the company and is directed toward employee theft, both simple theft and organized theft. Our agents are trained to observe employees and to look for suspicious activities that may indicate they are involved in the theft of company property. This may include the use of undercover agents posing as employees or vendors. All activities are recorded so that appropriate action may be taken.

Cost effective – loss prevention is one of the few areas in security where results can be measured in actual dollars. Potential thefts and actual property recovered are documented so that it is easy to see your “money at work”. Quarterly reports may be provided on actual and estimated savings.


The following Loss Prevention positions/service are available:


1. Loss Prevention Agent - Retail


Plain clothes agents that work retail stores to identify shoplifters and other criminal activity within the store. These agents can be covert by acting like employees or shopper and identifying criminal activity in addition to non-covert activities such as monitoring CCTV systems.


2. Loss Prevention Agent - Industrial


Plain clothes agents that work warehouse and industrial locations to identify criminal activity within the site. These agents can be covert by acting like employees to identifying criminal activity in addition to non-covert activities such as monitoring CCTV systems.


3. Loss Prevention Agent - Undercover


Loss prevention agents may be utilized in covert operations to identify internal theft. Under normal circumstances the loss prevention agent will be placed as an employee of the client and will identify any potential criminal activity within a site where they are assigned as and employee. The agent will perform normal employee duties during this time.


4. Video Surveillance Agent


Loss prevention agents may be used to monitor Video Surveillance systems within a facility to identify criminal activity as it occurs and takes appropriate action.


5. Secret Shopper Service


Loss prevention agents may be used as “secret shoppers” or “mystery shoppers” to identify criminal activity as well as evaluate customer service by employees of the client. In this case the agent acts as a customer to the point of actually making purchases in order to detect criminal activity by the employee and evaluate customer service of all employees.


6. Surveillance


Loss prevention agents may be used to conduct surveillance on specific customers, employees or locations. The agents will document all activities that occur in order to help identify criminal activity or customer service issues.


7. Loss Prevention Surveys


A loss prevention survey may be conducted of all current loss prevention activities in order to determine their effectiveness. This includes identify all loss prevention areas of concern, evaluating all current loss prevention activities and recommending changes to the current program.


8. Loss Prevention Planning


A loss prevention program may be developed from scratch by evaluating all loss prevention areas of concern and identifying appropriate action.


9. Civil Recovery


Civil recovery of losses may be combined with any of the above services. Civil recovery consists of taking appropriate action to recovery losses from individuals or companies that the client has sustained due to criminal activities. Criminal prosecution is not required for civil recovery. Clients are entitled to 3 times the loss for most losses related to criminal activities.
